My most recent and only current personal project right now became an idea very loosely and randomly but ultimately cultivated a complete body work; "Waking Up." First, I've included my statement for this body of work. Then I provided a short blurb about an update about the work. I will post these blurb art entries occasionally to keep an updated log of the process and progress of the project.
The complexities and intricacies of mind are of incredible bounty. In conjunction with consciousness, the mind becomes a boundless field for cultivating either the most precious awareness of viability, or can be the most detrimental imprisonment for a vicious, tainted beast. Disparities between the feelings of awareness of self are exponential. The realization of identity, whether it is a generality or a precise momentary mindfulness, opens floodgates to the hierarchy of needs, catalyzing the desire of introspection and the joy of resolving our own self-riddles. Sleepwalking or being brainwashed is the nearest comparison possible to relate what reality is like for those who are not tuned into the channel of self-awareness or mindfulness; these people are the prisoners of themselves. The underlying layer of one’s self is the principal ingredient in avoiding a stagnant mind, but coincidentally is the most difficult to measure. For those who are trapped from themselves are their worst enemies. Once the combination has been found to break through one’s self, true bliss and abundance can be had. But how can the labyrinths of ones own mind be solved? Each soul always has the ability to open the treasure chest; the matter is breaking through the daydream or awakening out of sleepwalking and realizing that all maps that navigate to successful mindfulness are already in your possession.
Art Entry: I decided to paint my canvasses black. The original thoughts of painting the canvas black grew from black symbolizing darkness, mystery, unknown, or in other words what is behind the face; within the body; or about the soul. Then a slight elaboration to use gloss medium gel with the black acrylic paint to create a high gloss black background was decided upon. The glossy effect, or the reflective effect was implemented to embellish on the concept of reflecting about oneself. And same goes for the shards of mirror, or the main and most literal reflector.
Viewing your face, the first and most looked at feature of a person, is usually the initial visual referent noticed about the piece. Physically seeing yourself is hoped to engage the viewer to think about why they are looking at themselves at the same time they are looking at the painting. But I want my viewers to see my works, and think about what they are seeing about themselves, within. Study your thoughts. Think about your thoughts. Have some visions in your mind while simultaneously looking at art, and meet and learn some things about your self. Feelings, emotions, judgments of your reactions, and opinions, are so often overlooked or rushed. Literalness, symbolism, and duality are the 3 points of my theme triangle with boundless additional subcategories. The media is mixed collage or mosaic but most generally consists of acrylic paint, photography, and broken pieces mirrors.
