I suggest reading the biography first. James Marshal- Dalek- had an atypical youth, moving around often, and being submerged in several drastically un-American-cultures. Did his youth influence his track as an artist? I say yes. The Japanese influence certainly yields in his most recent archives. The busy and hectic lifestyle that he was pushed through slightly communicates through his baroque-like, yet tasteful and fun, popping illustrations, paintings (which he also photographs to re-create his own art). I appreciate the meticulous concern with the bright geometric mayhem!
This fellow is a dynamic artist. Futuristic, trippy, energetic. Check out his blog. He has mad heads working on the clock; assistants in the studio creating his paintings, participating in his photo shoots, etc. The vivid, chromatic installations surrounded by seemingly devoted and enthusiastic participants inevitably reminds me of the THE FACTORY (a.warhol).
After you check out Dalek's blog, peep his 2005 archive of Photography. Namely, image 2/14: "driggs and lorimer; brooklyn"...The shadow & light play beautifully together on the brick building. I see a lovely conjuncture with the beautiful memento of nature as the sillouhette partially envelops the urban scape.
I hope this provides some interest for those who read this.
